Drawing Dragons for Bipolar

Winner - 1st Prize

From high above the salty spray, a flash of red is seen.
With grace untold, it folds it wings and plunges to the sea.
The wings that once held aloft, now propel it through the blue.
Though the fish are swift, this beauty captures them with ease.
He takes them from their watery home, and brings them to the cliffs above.
With wind once more under wing, this wyvern travels home.
As twilight softly settles down, an eerie wailing sounds.
This lonesome lullaby is cradled by the cliffs, and echoes across the sea.
Though solitary this wyvern stands, another's song he yearns to hear.
Perhaps one day his song will be heard, and this lonesome wyvern will be found.

This is my idea about a tropical sea-wyvern, that lives by the rocky sea cliffs of islands. He survives by diving into the ocean and capturing fish to eat. He is equally graceful both above and below water, however, he is kind of clumsy when it comes to land. He lives in a large cave that was once a volcano. He can also be found traveling from island to island leaping from cliffs and diving for fun. While he is currently alone, he longs to find another wyvern and dance with them beneath the moon whether it be in the air or under the sea. He does have friends though, the young man that found him as an egg is part of migratory tribe that lives on the chain of islands. He raised him and together they can swim in the sea, and help each other hunt. Their friendship is unbreakable and trust unwavering, even if they haven't seen eachother for a while.

The background is fantastic and it plays into the story of the character very well! Love the little friendship mentioned at the end :)
The design itself stood out mostly from the tail and the headshape (perfect for diving!). Very solid entry! Great imagination and story!

A butterfly by Tessith
By: Tessith

When I was a small kid, I was always running around, catching butterflies. Not very successfully, though. But I had a tendency to tell everyone that one day I'll catch a butterfly "thiiiiiis big". Sure, I grew up and forgot about my little dream. Until a butterfly of a size I would never imagine came to my life.
When she hatched, she was completely gray. No horns, small body and limbs, clumsy movements like all babies have. Only her bright blue eyes were shining on me every day.
- She is beautiful, I thought. Until she grown a little...
She loved to bath in sun since her first weeks. She's cheerful and at a same time very elegant in her own way. Even if it's raining, her vivid colors gives me the feel of warmth and happiness. And there is no better thing than watching her fly playfully.
The only thing, what makes my baby uncomfortable is being restricted. Dictated. Owned. It's rarely happening but when she's sad, her colors fade away. In that moment I realized one thing: Don't try to catch a butterfly. Enjoy them as they are, and they will bring you happiness.

Fantastic artwork and skillfully drawn! You had us at the uniqueness of the design, and those horns! Matches really well with the egg (and also the landscape!) and the colours are spot on! Love the detail in the art and the story :) Great creation! Keep it up!

River Ford by Lily-Lyn-Rain
By: Lily-Lyn-Rain
I never expected this to be how it all turned out… when father brought home that little egg I was thinking I’d be getting the best pet in the world! I was thinking I’d get to teach it tricks and maybe even get to fly on its back when it got big enough! …I was wrong on that front. First off, River never got all that big. Heck, he’s barely taller then me if you stand him up right! And he definitely doesn’t have any wings; Though he is a river dragon so I should have maybe expected that? As far as tricks go… that’s up for debate. My biggest mistake though, was thinking he’d be a pet! River is smart. Smarter then me, even! It’s more like having a little brother! The coolest little brother in the world! How I could ever think of him as any less is… well it ain’t possible! River Ford… my little brother…

Congrats Lily-Lyn-Rain! You've won....

Learn About Bipolar Disorder

Taken from ibpf.org/learn
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to function. Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe. They can result in damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide. But there is good news: bipolar disorder can be treated, and people with this illness can lead full and productive lives.

About 5.7 million American adults, or about 2.6 percent of the population, age 18 and older in any given year, have bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder typically develops in late adolescence or early adulthood. However, some people have their first symptoms during childhood, and some develop them late in life. It is often not recognized as an illness, and people may suffer for years before it is properly diagnosed and treated. Like diabetes or heart disease, bipolar disorder is a long-term illness that must be carefully managed throughout a person’s life (National Institute of Mental Health).
